Meditation with Leanne

Meditation is a broad and expansive practice. What meditation “is” varies greatly from person to person. Is meditation prayer? Is meditation inner work? Is meditation the absence of thought? Ultimately, when someone asks me what “is” meditation, I say, it is a state of being, not an action.

The following list of meditation practices are the variations I teach and practice and are not a comprehensive list of meditations.

❋ Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra is technically NOT meditation, however, it is often offered as a meditative practice. In many cases, individuals may find themselves in and out of a state of meditation during a yoga nidra practice.

❋ Guided Meditation

Guided meditation is also technically NOT meditation, however, it is often a gateway to meditation and it is common to find your self in a state of meditation during a guided meditation.

❋ Mantra Meditation

Mantra Meditation can be a true meditation and employs the use of a repeated sound to allow for the state of meditation.

❋ Mindfulness Meditation

Mantra Meditation can be a true meditation and employs the use of a repeated sound to allow for the state of meditation.

❋ Moving Meditation

A moving meditation can generate a true state of meditation and like mantra meditation, employs the use of repetitive movement patterns with breathing techniques to allow for a state of meditation.

❋ Tantric Meditation

Tantric Meditation can allow for a true state of meditation over time and uses varies meditation practices that work with energetics, breath, visualization and observations leading to a state of self awareness, purification and knowing beyond illusion.

Finding yourself in the state of meditation is similar to falling in love. You may have thought about it, read about it and practiced how to find it, but once you are in it, you know it.
Meditation Method

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra is often referred to as yogic sleep. This practice draws you to a place of deep rest within a state of gentle awareness, generally in a delta brainwave state. Yoga Nidra is generally practiced lying down and props can be used to make this more accessible. As with many meditation methods, you will find many variations of Yoga Nidra practices, the practice I facilitate was learned from Rolf Sovik and I follow this method exactly. You can expect to leave a Yoga Nidra session feeling deeply rested, more at ease in your day to day activities and improved quality of sleep. Yoga Nidra is known to support high blood pressure, circulatory issues, diseases caused by stress or anxiety and can help ease some of the disorders associated with aging.

Guided Meditation

Guided Meditations vary greatly and generally allow for creative input from the facilitator. There are some guided meditations that follow specifics scripts without variation, but there are also numerous guided experiences that are completely unscripted and in many cases improvised in the moment. My guided meditations are somewhere in the middle. I lean into the freedom of expression and enjoy writing meditations that are usually influenced by art, nature and my own experiences of meditation. Guided mediations often use visualization techniques, breathing practices and in some cases the use of mudras or yantras.

Meditation Method

Mantra Meditation

Mantra Meditation uses vibration as a means to find a state of meditation through the use of high vibration, high frequency sounds (not words) that are repeated over and over until a state of meditation. Many Mantra meditations repeat specific vibrational sounds aloud, while others instead repeat the sound in the mind. Both methods are mantra meditations and both allow for a deep state of sustained meditation. In my experience, the practice of mantra mediation has a significant half life and the effects can be felt for days in many cases.
