Learn to Let Go

Release comes in many forms

Letting go is a skill, it is a skill we can learn, practice and improve over time. Letting go can be a physical, emotional, behavioral or intellectual release or a combination of many at once. My aim as a therapeutic specialist is to use a holistic, whole person approach to letting go. I use many tools to provide holistic, whole person support in my yoga therapy sessions. None of the work I do is massage and I am not a massage therapist.

❋ Therapeutic Release

This hands on approach uses the positioning of the body with prescribed stretching and contracting, tensing and relaxing, pinning and stretching and other movements along with hands on touch. These movements can be from a standing position, seated position or lying down, but all sessions require active participation from the receiver. You will be actively moving your body throughout the entire session. I combine specific body postures with myofascial release techniques. In my approach I work from superficial to deep starting at the skin layer. This work is meant to support and encourage rehabilitation of injuries, assist with the prevention of injuries, help to reduced chronic pain, tension and stiffness, and help improve sleep quality.

❋ Repatterining

In some cases, our bodies, minds and identities have become locked into patterns that run like an algorithm and it can be incredibly challenging to unlearn the old pattern with out a new pattern to run on. This is a holistic approach used to adjust the inner experience in coordination with outer experience using techniques to work with gait, posture and other chronic movement patterns. It may feel like relearning something as basic and foundational as reaching, stepping, twisting etc.

❋ Dry Brushing

Using finger tips or other tools, I work with a combination of movement, breath and light stroking motions to encourage lymphatic drainage and improved lymphatic function. This can be particularly helpful to decrease swelling, to assist with recovery after illness, to assist with circulation after certain procedures or just for the sense of relaxation that this process can allow for.

❋ Full Engagement Listening

This method is often combined with another or supports another method in my sessions. As a trained professional listener, I create an environment that allows the client to feel at ease, and allows for them to verbalize any sensations, emotions or thoughts as we work. Full engagement listening means I am listening deeply with my ears, my eyes, my hands and my heart. It also means I will not say much in response to what I hear besides acknowledging and repeating back to you what I hear/see/feel. This is not talk therapy because I am not responding with advice, feedback or my perspective. This simply allows for truly whole person holistic release.

❋ Assisted Stretching with Breath

This method uses body postures along with assisted stretching that is led by the breath, for example, a deep inhale may be used to prepare for a deep stretch or pull that occurs on the out breath, an inhale can be used when a limb is lifted and an exhale when the limb is lowered. Each breath has a corresponding push/pull, press/release, expand/contract.

❋ Gentle Touch

This method is often combined with another or supports another method in my sessions. Gentle touch can feel like a soothing stroking or soft pressure on the body and is often used after a period of hard work, deep release or when your personal edge or limit has been reached in a session. This may be a stroking the scalp or top of the head, back body, hands, feet arm or legs, but would exclude other areas of the body explicitly. This is a genuine offering of kind, tender, loving support, in no way is it intended to be or should it be interpreted as sexual or sensual.

Reconnect with your body and mind as you escape the noise of everyday life.
